Argentina,
Contact came there in the 80ies. Buenos Aires was the centre. First it was taught in a theatre school. Alma who is now living in Roma was teaching it there at that time. In Buenos Aires is a jam every day. In Rosario they have one three times a week. Last year teaching contact started in Cordoba and Mendoza, two larger cities west of Buenos Aires and Rosario. There was a meeting in Cordoba happening earlier this year where people involved in contact were meeting to think an develop ideas and try things out. Five people attended and the experimental meeting was lasting for a month. They want to set up such a coming together again. It’s open for all people who do contact.
There is a contact festival each year in Buenos Aires that lasts for ten days.

Switzerland
There are many big cities where jams are on regularly, at least ones a month, in Bern they have it every week. There are two big ones in Zurich one is happening just before Christmas.
There are two big scenes. One is the German speaking community, the other one are the French speaking contacters. There are attempts to bring them together what works out not to be easy. There was a event close at the border to France where some people from the different scenes came together. But it seems not to be easy to get some permanent community building results.
There will be a bigger event in September, which is set up as a teachers meeting, lasting for three days. The Swiss website is supposed to be very good and updated. You can find all workshops taking place, information about the teachers, jams and all the things happening around contact.

Australia - Pen from Berlin
Recording to the land there is a very spread out and isolated scene existing. In Melbourne you have the oldest scene: ten/twelve years old, jam once a week with up to 20 people, once and again they have weekly classes which go on for about six weeks. In Sydney they had a rather small scene. At the weekly jam were sometimes just two or for people, sometimes ten. Now it’s growing bigger over the last two hears. In other cities you find jams not as big and not regular, for instance in Perth (east coast). There is a weekly class in Byron Bay. There also the first international jam for Australia took place last year. Forty people cam from all over Australia. It lasted five days. That was a big success. The second one will be/ or was (?) this year which includes two days for teaching.

people (i do not remember the name of the woman) trying to set up contact community since three years. It is difficult so far that there is mostly traditional dancing, not even a scene of modern dance existing, no classes, no school. But there are weekly classes and a jam once a month and the steady effort to build up interest. That includes fundraising which seems to be successful. There is a big need of support and people are welcome to come and teach.

Germany - Ecki from Freiburg
A well developed larch community is existing. Contact started here in Berlin at the end 70’s. from Berlin and Freiburg contact spread out into communities in over 100 cities. There are weekly and monthly jams going on in several cities. Since 12-15 years there are big national jams in Potsdam, Bremen, (blackforestjam is closed), Mosbach, Konstanz… and in other places too.
There is a travelling culture between Switzerland, Austria and Germany to meet and exchange ideas and practice, the Germans love to travel even more far

South Africa - Samanta from Cape Town
The situation is similar to Australia: large country, places are very separated from each other, also because of transport problem, public transport is just not existing. CI is known since the 1980’s. some knowledge was brought in. But mostly used in dance schools to train dancers. No open contact culture or community was existing.
It seems to be that the so far existing contact culture just includes white people. It does not exist in form of open festivals or performances. There is a weekly class in Cape Town now, including a structured jam. But the most interest is still coming from professional dancers and actors.

Greece - Maria from Thessaloniki
Tesaloniki is a big city and there are many students. One studio is existing where there are classes all day long all week through. Costas Gerados is the teacher and leader of the studio.

Sweden, Norway, Finland (Nordic countries)
In Sweden in three big cities contact is practiced on a regular scale. Ten years ago was a strong performance group existing in the second largest city. During the time of 1994 up to 1996 a jam started. After two years it took place more regular.it started with a regular group. Now 20 to 30 people attending. Waterjamming in a pool space is taking place and outdoorjamming in the street. One large studio is existing.
1995/06 the first Nordic impro meeting took place. It went for fife days. Norway started this initiative. Now it takes place two times a year and it’s travelling around to several places within the three countries. Mostly jamming rather less workshops happen. There is a country jam with families and children. In that different activities are integrated. It’s called: living jamming and dance in life.
Pippaluk did start a jam for Denmark.
In Helsinki are very strong regular jams.

India - Johan Auroville
There is an international community existing in the south. Dancing in the nature is a big part of it. there ar e influences of other artists. There are two or three sessions every week. A contact festival will be organized for march 2007.
There is an open artists house where it is possible to dance all time. It is in the north of India. A Japanese couple runs it doing contact and dance. Name is: Daramasala McLoed Ganj Subbooly Dance Theatre. In Bangladesh there are also some activities related to contact but they do not call it contact. johan@auroville.org.
